Examined by Friedman-Buck survey in 1992. Site used for village activities and partly covered by a cemetery. THIP - Roman antiquities. Excavations by SCA 1950-1, Shahata Adam found Ptolemaic period mudbrick buildings; 1952, 7 feddans cleared previously under agriculture, Ptolemaic houses preserved to foundation level, few vestiges of doors. In1954 Shafik Farid excavated Roman burials in abandoned town area. Some without sarcophagi or tombs, others found in oval sarcophagi of terracotta made up of 2 cylindrical vases. Some bodies were in oblong tombs of red brick. Finds: JE 46789: Stela of Osorkon II (in Zagazig magazine?). From 1949, 2 bronze tablets, 5000 GR bronze coins; 1950-1: bronze mirror, bronze statuette of Harpocrates,small limestone hippo; for 1952 season finds see Adam, ASAE 55. Many Ptolemaic coins and some small finds from 1954 published by Farid in 1966. Friedman and Buck noted sherds of Graeco-Roman date in south part of site in 1992.
