Drill-cores taken in 1983 by the DAI (see MDAIK 40) found the tell to be founded on silt, probably in Ptolemaic times. Mound partly occupied by village and modern cemetery, the free part extends covers 200 x 300 metres, elevated 2.5 metres above the cultivation. Sherd collection and testing produced no material earlier than Ptolemaic, and most of the sherds dated from Late Roman period. Some examples of red-slipped wares published by Ballet and von der Way (1993), 16-17, Fig. 8, nos. 49-50.
