as only a village on SoE map 1:100,000 (1916) and also on ESA 1996 map
NH36-I5b. Visited by an EES survey of 2005 led by J. Rowland. It was a
large mound in the past (c.6m high) and when villagers came to build their
houses they found pottery and bricks/walls and large coins. The remaining
kom
now slopes up to c.2m at its highest point and pottery can still be found
below the surface. The village is about 100m from the Rosetta branch
of the Nile. No pottery was evident in the cemetery. Apparently an Early
to Middle Islamic site. |
