UMM EL-LABAN, K. [608]
Visited by Neal Spencer, 2003: The mound is located at the edge of a village (Ezbet Mohamed el-Sayed el-Tunisi), and is covered by a Muslim cemetery, still in use. It is possible that the archaeological deposits run under the modern village (present houses are on elevated ground, though lower than the tell). The surface is covered in a loose sandy deposit, with tufts of halfa-grass. Coarse pottery sherds visible, including bread moulds. Late Period and Ptolemaic ceramics noted, including fine burnished black ware bowls and buff-slipped coarse silt ware vessels; also significant amount of metal slag. Many sherds visible in adjacent fields.
