KHILGAN, K. EL-  [607]

Excavations in Summer 2002, directed by B. Midant-Reynes, revealed three levels of remains. The deepest and oldest contains Late Predynastic to Early Dynastic graves of fairly poor type; among the former both the Lower Egyptian and Naqadan predynastic traditions are represented. Above these is an occupation area dating from the Second Intermediate Period. This latter stratum is cut by graves containing extended burials, which are likely to date from the Roman Period (one burial of a child was accompanied by two bracelets of iron). A preliminary report by B. Midant Reynes, et al. has appeared. The character of this site is similar to others in the immediate vicinity, such as Tell Samara (175) and Tell ed-Daba (172).
