HAMAM, K. EL- [368]
The ESA 1996 map shows the rising contours of the mound but with no indication of it being an antiquitiy site and no name. Visited by Penny Wilson in 2004, who reported as follows: The site is part of a concession for the Göttingen Mission (since 2004), together with Kom el Giza (no. 369). See http://www.schedia.de/
It lies next to the village of Karyun and a number of features can be seen at the site: a substantial red brick structure in the German excavations, consisting of a great number of large square piers with red brick bases capped with limestone in mortar; ridges and mounds of sandy/mud brick structural elements; and a cistern. One of the excavated areas contains grindstones made of red granite and black basalt. To the west there is a red brick structure in a field which must be part of the original site.
