Built on gezira with a visible mud-brick enclosure wall and Ptolemaic temple site (Petrie). Excavated by Petrie and Griffith for the EEF, with discovery of a temple and major finds of Ptolemaic glass. Mound bordered by fields to N and W; some settlement on E side. Pottery noted from 3IP down to Late Roman by Amsterdam University survey in 1984-5. Petrie, W.M.F., Tanis II, Nebesheh and Defenneh. London 1886.
