GHIZWAN, T.  [58]

This site is located approximately 16km SSE of Tell el Moqdam and was visted by Friedman and Buck in 1992. It is close to the main highway between Zagazig and Cairo, and about 1 km south of the village of Zankalun. At the time of the visit in June 1992 the tell consisted of a small area about 20 meters in diameter, which was in the process of being scraped away by a tractor to prepare a field for rice cultivation. The villagers told the investigators that in the past the site had been about 2 feddans in area and that they often found sherds at depth when digging irrigation canals. Hellenistic pottery was abundant in the freshly scraped surface and excavated ground.
