FARKHA, T EL- [334]
The finds from this site have proved to be quite exceptional for the study of the Predynastic Period and Old Kingdom in Lower Egypt. Details of the fine discoveries of 2006-7 includng gilded figures and ivories, may be found in the bibliography cited here and the link to the Polish expedition's website at the foot of the opposite column. In 2009-11 work was carried out on all three mounds at Tell el-Farkha. Below the Early Dynastic chapel on the west komnumerous rooms were unearthed, part of the administrative complex found in 2006-8. Remains of buildings of the Lower Egyptian Predynastic culture were discovered on the central kom, built from organic materials. To the west, early mud brick structures of the Lower Egyptian Predynastic and transition to Naqada culture were found. On the eastern kom the cemeteries from the beginning of the dynastic period to the beginning of the Old Kingdom were excavated. The wealth of the burials declined over this period.
