DUNDIT, T.- [507]
The mound is about 100 metres E-W, 250 metres N-S and slopes down on the east and north sides at an approximate 45 degree angle. Most of the mound is covered by a modern cemetery, the tomb of Shehid on the north and a mosque on the south. Exposures on the top of the mound and especially at the northeast end revealed an abundance of densely articulated mud-brick. The mud-brick architecture appears to be oriented north-south or west-east. A single piece of white limestone about 0.5m long and 0.2m wide was noted near the southern end of the mound near the mosque, but no other stone was observed. Pottery, some of which date back to the Third Intermediate and Saite periods, was moderately abundant both on the top and eroding out of the sides of the tell. A small blue faience amulet in the form of a cat was also found on the surface amongst the tombs by one of the inspectors with the Friedman-Buck survey of 1992. A sports facility has been built on part of the site. Photograph © Renee Friedman
