DIEBI, TELL [625]
Shown on the SoE 1:100,000 (1916) map as a medium-sized mound just south of the settlement of Deibi. Visited by Penny Wilson in 2004, who reported as follows: This site seems to have been famous as the location of an Islamic Gamaa, but it is difficult to make sense of it now. There is a modern town here and a 8-9m high cemetery mound, 200m long, which must be what was once part of the older site. The cemetery site has two maghbara-tombs on it: Sheikh Fatallah and Abu Shushu. There is a new school built on the western side. The site wasn’t mapped but we did make a small sherd collection here.
Photographs from a collection taken by Dr Penny Wilson in 2004. (Copies of others kept at the EES).
