| Probably
the central remnant of a once larger tell, and seems to form part of the
chain with Kom Dahab (461) at the south, a tell in the centre and
then this one. The sides are quite regular and at the time of the survey
there was a recently dug deep pit on the top. This pit was up to 3m deep
and the sides showed stratigraphy containing pottery, brickwork and
smashed limestone. The surface had a covering of pottery and glass with
some red brick fragments and it was clear from the pit that this
went all the way down through the tell, which probably contains substantial
traces of buildings. Surface pottery dated from the 4th-9thC AD and included
some ARS and Cypriote sigillata ware as well as local products. |
