ALAQMA, EL-  [531]

Amsterdam University survey 1984-5: village of El-Alaqma built over part of a levelled tell, with the north and north-east parts of the mound levelled to agriculture.

Satellite imagery shows a small trace of the original mound with the tomb of a sheikh on it, situated near the irrigation canal which runs past the NW side of the village. Many limestone chips occur in the fields and red granite blocks are incorporated into the village houses. Nearly all these blocks were architraves, except for one column-base. Sherds: 3IP, LP and Roman.
