AHMAR, K. el- [99]
Inspected for the Delta Survey in April 2011 by Patricia and Jeffrey Spencer. This site lies behind the town of Sidi Ghazi and consists of a very large mound, rising some 6m above the surrounding fields. A water-station stands on the west side and a considerable amount of earth has been displaced by its construction, and pushed back onto the mound. The highest part of the site, at the south, forms an elevated plateau, on the edge of which at the south is a modern cemetery. Another modern cemetery lies on the eastern part of the mound. The surface slopes down to the north, covered by a thin growth of coarse vegetation and much modern plastic rubbish. Despite the name, the site is not very red in colour. Few sherds were visible on the surface, those seen were Roman.
