ABU ZEID, K   [ii]  (643)

The EES survey led by J. Rowland visited this location in 2005.

There is another Kom Abu Zeid further north, at 30 30 45N 30 52 15E (our No. 38, also indicated on the SoE 1:100,000 map of 1916).

J.Rowland noted the following at Abu Zeid: There is a modern cemetery about one feddan in size, the middle of which is at a level some 1 -1.5m above the surrounding land. The oldest tomb is about 200 years old and made of mud-brick. Below this tomb a section showed red brick which may be Roman. Potsherds were observed in a visible section in the cemetery.
