Kom Humar

Archaeological site, formerly called Kom Abu el-Humar el-Kebir. The site has a gently undulating sandy surface with patches of grass and thorn. Sizeable village at NW corner. Southern area features almost no surface pottery. Parts of middle bare of vegetation. Elevated areas at SW and NW with coarse red silt ware sherds and a few finer wares of Late to Ptolemaic Periods. Possible location of previous excavations on west, with open sections showing mud-brick structures. No fired brick seen on site. Ashes and burnt human bones in open sections. Several large limestone fragments noted and also a siltstone mortar. Egypt Exploration Society Delta Survey no. 292.
