Kom Abu Tahun

Archaeological site overbuilt by a village, with a small modern cemetery on the south eastern edge. Tested by a team from the German Archaeological Institute in 1983. The test revealed nothing older than Ptolemaic. Most of the recovered pottery dated from the eighth and ninth centuries AD. The satellite imagery of this site is particularly instructive and shows how the fields have encroached to leave only that portion of the site protected by the presence of the village and cemetery. Egypt Exploration Society Delta Survey no. 252.The satellite imagery of this site is particularly instructive and shows a small remaining area of mound below the village and cemetery. On zooming out from the location in Google Earth, the relationship of the site to that of Buto to the south-west can be seen.
