El-Barnugi

Extensive archaeological site covering an area of approximately 560m E-W by 250m N-S. Area roughly divided into two by a canal running north-south. The surface of the low undulating mound is covered in sharp grass and camel thorn. The site actually comprises two mounds, the southern one (with the placemark) and another some 400m to the north, overbuilt by the village. Blocks of Tuthmosis III and Ramesses II reported by Edgar in 1911. A description of the site was made in the early 1980s by the American Naukratis Project. Roman pottery on the surface included African Red Slip and Cypriote Red Slip Wares. Egypt Exploration Society Delta Survey no. 296.
